Many youth programs are offered by the major certification agencies. While many many of these are alike or very similar, the programs may go by different names. Use the link at the bottom of this page to visit some of the certification agencies and find out more details about what they have to offer, or visit your local dive center.

Supplied Air Snorkeling for Youth, referred to as SAS or SASY

Designed for kids as young as 5 years old (as little as 40 - 45 lbs.) What looks like a standard scuba equipment set is actually a personal flotation device with an attached air supply. Once equipped, the SASY diver can't sink! The air supply provides a comfortable breathing option far superior to a standard snorkel.

SASY lets kids experience the underwater world the easy way - by snorkeling with scuba equipment instead of a snorkel.
Opon completion of the program, each participant receives a card and wall certificate. The full-color, wallet-size card comes with picture, name and address.

For young adventurers, the Bubblemaker program is an introduction to the thrill of breathing underwater. For kids eight or nine years old, it is a chance to take the plunge with an Instructor and go pool diving.

Scuba Rangers and Seal Team
Scuba Rangers is an activities club for kids 8-12. By learning to snorkel and scuba dive in a swimming pool, kids build confidence, discipline and respect for the water--all while setting and accomplishing goals, and having fun! Learn the basics of safe diving and explore different AquaMissions - or specialty dives - like wreck, navigation, buoyancy, underwater photography, environmental awareness and more.

Above the age of 10, junior and full certifications are available.

In addition to these standard programs widely available, there are many destinations that offer kids programs. These are a "Summer Camp" type atmosphere where some of the above programs are incorporated among many other activities.
